Can a simple redesign of a waste bin have a significant impact? We believe so!
It’s not our most revolutionary invention thus far. In fact, it’s merely a redesign of the existing waste baskets. However, it made a lot of sense for Copenhagen Municipality and its citizens to have a food waste bin uniquely designed for the case.
Why?
Copenhagen Municipality needed a food waste bin, but nothing on the market met its requirements.
Some waste bins were close, but there were problems such as back weight, which made them tip over, too big holes, or sharp edges that tore the bags.
Sorting food waste should be easy, and even small problems can get in the way. That’s why the municipality ended up developing a new design from scratch with us to create the perfect food waste bin for the citizens of Copenhagen.
Impact:
The proportion of food waste being collected is increasing. It may not be all thanks to the food waste bin, but alongside the rest of the series, which is designed to make sorting waste easier (food waste bin + bio bag dispenser + rack for waste bins), it’s excellent support for the change.
In addition, it has turned out to be a more cost-effective solution for the municipality. While a redesign from scratch takes resources, they own the design now, making production at scale more affordable. This means the city has a tailored solution that is cheaper for the citizens in the long run.
