How we invent

All our projects follow the same process, which ensures a high level of invention, regardless of the domain.

We handle everything from problem analysis to the final product, matured and ready for industrial production.

Process overview and introduction to sample project
Every project starts with a vision to solve a problem from a new angle by challenging the familiar and developing robust solutions. Through five phases, we work creatively and systematically from a problem to a concept solution and on to a finished product ready for production. In this video series, we illustrate the process of the Biodispenser project for the City of Copenhagen.

In this phase, a wide range of solution ideas are combined and developed into approximately three to six alternative concepts. These are all described in text and illustration and made physical through quick and rough mock-ups. The many alternatives are evaluated in collaboration with project stakeholders and potential users, narrowing the selection down to two to three concepts.
1-3 months. Typical deliveries:
Documentation.
Requirements specification.
Catalogue of ideas.

In this phase, we spend a lot of time in the workshop experimenting with how the main function and sub-functions can be realised in practice. In parallel with the physical modelling, we consider how production, construction, economy, sustainability and aesthetics can work together. The phase concludes with the involvement of project stakeholders to discuss and select a final concept.
1-3 months. Typical deliveries:
Requirements specification.
Mould design.
Functional models.

Phase 4

Product maturation and testing
> Read more about it
We further develop the chosen concept by detailing each component and clarifying how the product will function in the context in which it is used. We gather as much as possible into a functional prototype that can be tested with users in the right context from which design changes can be made. 1-3 months. Typical deliveries: CAD 3D models. Alpha prototype.

Phase 5

Design and product maturation

Design and production maturation

In the final phase, we prepare the product for launch. Basically, we ensure that what we design can be produced professionally and used safely. This involves preparing final CAD models, technical drawings and data sheets, obtaining certifications and engaging in dialogue with suppliers and production partners.
1-3 months. Typical deliveries:
CAD design.
Beta prototype.
Technical drawings.
Data sheet.
